Is it the season to be Jolly?
Normally here in this space I would be giving you the news of the past month.. but at this time of year I am asking for your help.
Our school will be breaking up for two weeks before Christmas, this is the only time that the school closes, of-course the Orphanage remains open. Our teachers work 50 weeks of the year, this is the only time that they are given a break.
The majority of our children will stay where they live, which will mean enormous hardship.
Help us this year by donating to assist us in making as many food parcels as possible. A food parcel which will contain, rice, flour, fat, salt, sugar, some greens, for a family of up to 5 will cost $25.00. Free water will also be given.
We would very much like to do at least 300 food hampers. Plus we would include depending if funds are available, rent assistance, that many of our families will remain with a roof over their heads.
During school time we provide porridge in the mornings and a lunch, for so very many this is the only food this is the only meal they will have, during our break of two weeks, they will not be able to have this. Thus we pack up food hampers in the hope it will sustain them and their family. Without this we loose some of our children back to the garbage dumps, begging and becoming very ill.
Poverty, where we are located in Kaptembwa, Nakuru, is so extreme that one lacks the means to provide for oneself in all areas and though we know we will be assisting in the long term with education, it is the immediate need that we must address.
Christmas, perhaps to you, is a time to spend in a feast of food, gifts and celebration. Perhaps by giving a little back you will be able to give the greatest gift of all, the gift of giving to another.
In our Orphanage, our children will all be together and our older children who live in Boarding schools will return to us, for these children who have been abandoned or orphaned we endevour to bring in as much ‘family’ to them. Our School Director, Christopher and his lovely wife Alice will be spending their time with our House-Parents to ensure that they will have a most joyous day filled with play, stories and a family lunch all together.
We thank you for actually making a difference…
